Overview and Philosophy
Luna Scura Yoga, located in Kelowna’s Lower Mission neighborhood, takes its name from the Italian phrase for ‘Dark Moon’ — a tribute to ancient navigators who found clarity in stillness. The studio embodies this spirit, offering a space where practitioners can move with life’s waxing and waning rhythms. Owner Nicole has cultivated a team of instructors diverse in background and specialty, from Stanley, a recent UBC biology graduate and former Highland dancer, to Crystal, a lifelong educator with over 30 years in fitness. The philosophy centers on finding balance, strength, and symmetry for all bodies, regardless of gender, shape, size, or experience level. Classes are not heated beyond a comfortable room temperature, making them accessible to a wide range of students.
Classes and Offerings
Luna Scura offers a wide variety of classes to suit different needs and preferences. These include Ashtanga, a physically focused and energetic practice emphasizing breath, posture, and focus; Yin, a static approach to sitting with postures for deeper opening; Slow Flow, a gentle pace for mindfulness; and the Roll Model Method, a self-massage technique using therapy balls to release tension. Unique offerings include Sound Bath, where resonant sounds from crystal and metal singing bowls promote relaxation; Reiki, a therapeutic touch practice to ease stress; Breathwork, focusing on conscious breathing for mental and emotional well-being; and AIReal Aerial Silks, a playful yet challenging class using suspended silks.
