Overview
PranaShanti Yoga Centre, founded in 2008 by Devinder Kaur, grew from a web resource into a welcoming Ottawa studio. The space was created as an oasis in the city, where students can heal the body, calm the mind, and strengthen the spirit. Devinder brings over 25 years of experience and is a 500-hour Yoga Alliance registered teacher in Hatha and Kundalini traditions. The centre emphasizes mindful living and sustainable practices, from natural cleaning products to recycled materials. With two locations—the main yoga centre and the Education Centre—PranaShanti supports a diverse community of practitioners.
Students range from those seeking weekly stress relief to career yogis pursuing further education. The atmosphere is intentionally soothing, with an emphasis on internal journey over external comparison, reflected in the mirror-free studios.
Studios and Classes
The Yoga Centre features three climate-controlled studios: the Body Room for heated classes using infrared panels, and the Soul and Mind Rooms at room temperature. Over 65 drop-in classes are offered weekly, including Hatha, Kundalini, hot, warm, yin, and flow, suitable for all levels. No mirrors encourage self-reflection, and teachers provide clear instruction and adjustments. Change rooms are gender inclusive, with showers, lockers, and eco-friendly amenities.
The boutique offers ethically sourced yoga gear, clothing, and wellness products. Wellness services include holistic treatments in a private treatment room. The centre also hosts events, fundraisers, and an Energy Exchange (Seva) program for financial accessibility.
Education and Community
The newly opened PranaShanti Education Centre provides workshops, courses, and trainings to deepen yoga and meditation practice. It includes the School of Yoga, School of Yoga Therapy, and School of Life, offering programs for personal and professional growth. PranaShanti is recognized as eastern Canada’s largest yoga training centre. Founder Devinder Kaur is a highly requested presenter at conferences and travels as a guest trainer.
Community programs include donating classes to fundraisers and offering 100% proceeds events for local charities. The centre’s sustainable practices extend to low-water fixtures, biodegradable soaps, and recycled paper products. Virtual livestream classes are also available.
