Overview
Kelowna Yoga Hub, a division of the non-profit Kelowna Yoga House Society, has been serving the Kelowna community since 2001. As a society-run studio, it operates with a mission to share yoga, movement, and modalities while promoting physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. The studio welcomes individuals of any age, race, religion, gender, fitness level, identity, or body type, fostering an inclusive environment. Membership in the society supports ongoing operations and includes discounts on classes, events, and workshops, access to a lending library, and an invitation to the Annual General Meeting where members help shape the organization’s future. The studio acknowledges that it sits on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Syilx/Okanagan People.
Classes and Practices
Kelowna Yoga Hub offers a diverse range of practices, including Iyengar Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Turiya Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Ecstatic Dance, and Qigong. Iyengar yoga features prominently, with several experienced teachers: Melissa, who has studied at RIMYI in Pune, India, and brings over 25 years of teaching; Phofi, a longtime practitioner; Tracy, a Level 2 certified Iyengar teacher with training under Geeta Iyengar; and Janice, a Level 1 teacher certified in 2019. The studio also offers other modalities led by teachers like Stephanie, who teaches Hatha and Yin, and Barb, who leads Core Connexion movement sessions. Classes emphasize proper alignment, the use of props, and modifications to accommodate all levels.
Visitor Experience
Students can drop in without advance booking, though pre-registration through the MindBody app is recommended to secure a spot. Mats are available to use at no extra cost, or visitors can bring their own. Arriving a few minutes early is advised to settle in; belongings can be stored in designated bins. It is recommended to inform the teacher of any injuries or medical conditions before class. A typical class begins with centering, followed by a guided sequence of postures, and concludes with Savasana for deep rest. Classes run 50–90 minutes and are designed to build strength, flexibility, and balance. Newcomers need not be flexible—the practice meets students where they are, with teachers offering modifications. Class credits are valid for one year, and special events have separate cancellation policies.
